No compromises on materials, fit, or construction.

Good fit is critical to safety, for both men and women. I encourage incorporating armor, but it's entirely your choice.

When you can rely on your gear, you can relax and have more fun.

Isn't that why we ride?

Mission

To fit men and women of all shapes and sizes equally well with garments they’ll love forever and wear for a lifetime. To bring people closer to the source(s) of the textiles and garments they purchase.

To help consumers reclaim their power and find the courage to tune out media images and instead tune into what they know is true for themselves about what they want and need to best live their own lives.

Technology

Garment-making requires a combination of high- and low-tech tools: pencils, paper, rulers, tape measures, as well as industry standard industrial design software and machinery.

More important than the tools are the one-to-one interactions and co-creation between clothier and client. The positive energy generated by people coming together to create something new and high-value is the most satisfying aspect of this work.

Solution

Custom clothes are ‘slow clothes’, a process that engenders excellence and originality. I invite you into my studio where we relax, consume refreshing beverages, and talk about your life, lifestyle, and the inspirational images you’ve brought with you.

It is a deeply personal and iterative process, where solutions present themselves spontaneously by the interaction between people and materials, and are eventually honed into the final design and construction that is unique to you.

Are you ready?

30 minutes, preferably in person. Always free.

In-depth Discussion at my Home/Studio

60-90 minutes. Maybe 120 minutes if we're having a particularly fabulous time. We talk about your needs, your life, and your lifestyle. Solutions come faster when you bring along images of what inspires you. A design is chosen and we take your measurements.

Fittings

We will meet two to three more times, where you will try on mock-ups of your design, and we will perfect the style lines and the fit. Bring your armor if we're building a moto garment.

About Me

Grey_smallerFirst conceived in 2008 in Portland, Oregon as Red Feather Design – inspired by my African Grey parrot – Shahira Kamal Custom specializes in custom outerwear, technical garments, and motorcycle apparel, as well as performs technical design and patternmaking services for the apparel industry. I love the technical design/patternmaking phase most of all, because it bridges conceptualization and construction, as 2D concepts are translated into 3Drealities.

BabySewing

I started my career in fashion wanting to make fancy dresses for the red carpet. But the more clothes I made, the more I realized clothes are not about clothes at all; they’re about the phenomenal capabilities and expressions of the human body. I became less interested in clothing that just sits there and looks pretty, preferring to create technical garments that help a human do a job, protect him or her from the elements, and even protect them from harm.

During the custom apparel process, three primary intentions are explored as I co-create with clients:

1) to reconnect people to their own creativity and unique qualities as we move through the design/build process together;

2) to raise the perceived value of handcrafted custom clothing; and

3) to contribute to the larger general shift in values that is expanding in Western society, as it continues to move away from expressing itself as consumerism-on-auto-pilot toward more mindful consumption of goods and services.
